Preparation steps

Preheat the oven to 180°C (approximately 350°F).

Peel the potatoes and cut into thin slices. Peel the garlic, halve and rub on the cut surfaces of the potatoes. Grease the baking dish with butter and spread the potatoes in the dish. Season with salt, pepper and nutmeg. Pour in the cream, until the potatoes are barely covered.

Bake for about 45 minutes, until golden brown. If the gratin is browning too quickly, cover with aluminum foil. Remove from the oven, let cool and serve.
