Roll out the puff pastry and cut in half lengthwise (about 18 x 12 cm) (approximately 7 x 5 inches). Brush with butter.
Chop the dried fruits, and mix with the vanilla sugar and cinnamon. Sprinkle the dried fruits over the rolled puff pastry. Roll up each puff pastry portion into a long roll and cut into about 5 cm (approximately 2 inches) wide slices. Press each slice in the middle with the back of a wooden spoon, so that the slice becomes inside out (Franz roll shape).
Place the rolls on a baking tray lined with parchment paper, brush with cream and bake in a preheated oven at 180°C (fan: 160°C, gas mark 2-3) (approximately 350°F) until golden brown, about 25 minutes.
Remove the rolls from the oven and let cool on a wire rack.
