For the cupcakes
2 cups all-purpose flour
¼ cup cocoa powder
1 Tbsp Baking powder
½ cup sugar
2 eggs
cup sunflower oil
1 cup milk
For the orange buttercream
½ cup unsalted butter
2 ¼ cups powdered sugar
3 drops vanilla extract
2 Tbsps Orange juice
orange Food coloring

Preparation steps

1.
For the cupcakes: heat the oven to 200°C (180° fan) 400°F gas 6. Place paper cases in a 12 hole muffin tin.

Sift the flour, cocoa and baking powder into a mixing bowl. Stir in the sugar.
3.
Whisk together the eggs and oil in a separate bowl until frothy, then slowly whisk in the milk.

Stir into the dry ingredients until just blended. The mixture will be slightly lumpy.
5.
Spoon into the paper cases and bake for about 20 minutes until risen and springy to the touch. Cool in the tin for 5 minutes, then place on a wire rack to cool completely. Set aside 1 cake.
6.
For the orange buttercream: beat the butter until soft. Gradually sift in the icing sugar and beat well. Beat in the vanilla until fluffy and pale.
7.
Slowly add the orange juice and beat until blended.
8.
Spoon into a piping bag and pipe on top of 11 cakes.
9.
Cut the remaining cake into 11 pieces and place a piece on each cake.
