2 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
1 ⅔ cups Whole wheat flour
1 tsp salt
1 tsp baking soda
1 cup porridge oats
2 cups Buttermilk

Preparation steps

1.
Heat the oven to 200ºC (180º fan) 400ºF, gas 6.

Put the dry ingredients into a large bowl and mix well. Make a well in the middle then pour in the buttermilk and mix with your hands to make a soft dough. Add more flour or milk if necessary.
3.
Turn the dough onto a floured board and knead for a couple of minutes. Form into a loaf shape, sprinkle with plain flour and slash a cross in the top of the loaf.
4.
Put the loaf on a floured baking sheet and bake in the oven for about 40 minutes or until the bottom of the loaf sounds hollow when you tap it.
