- 4 Chicken legs (jointed)
- 4 small lemons (quartered)
- 4 large vine tomatoes (cored and cut into wedges)
- ⅔ cup pitted green olives
- ⅔ cup pitted black olives
- 2 onions (finely chopped)
- 2 cloves garlic cloves (minced)
- 2 tsps Ras el hanout
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1 tsp ground Cumin
- 1 Tbsp honey
- 1 cup chicken stock
- salt

Suggested variation; add 1 peeled and finely diced turnip to the slow cooker before cooking.
Preparation steps

Heat the olive oil in a large casserole dish set over a moderate heat until hot. Season the chicken pieces and seal in batches until golden brown in colour all over.

Transfer to a slow cooker and lower the heat under the casserole dish.

Add the onion and garlic and sweat with a little salt for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until soft. Add the ground spices, honey, lemon, tomato, olives and stock and stir thoroughly.

Pour over the chicken in the slow cooker and stir again. Cover with a lid and cook on a medium setting for 4 hours until the chicken is cooked through.

Adjust the seasoning taste after 4 hours before ladling into serving dishes. Garnish with the basil and saffron threads before serving.
