Cook pasta in plenty of salted boiling water until al dente. Peel garlic and cut into thin slices. Rinse chile and cut into thin rings. In a large pan, sauté garlic and chile in 4 tablespoons hot olive oil.

Add sage and sauté, stirring, 1-2 minutes.

Drain pasta in a colander and transfer to the pan with garlic and chile.

Toss spaghetti to coat. Cut basil into thin strips.
