Preparation steps

1.

Preheat oven to 180°C (approximately 350°F).

2.

Peel and chop garlic in half. Rub 4 small ovenproof dishes with cut garlic. Rinse potatoes, peel, cut in half lengthwise and cut into thin slices. Distribute evenly between all 4 dishes. Mix heavy cream, half of cheese and creme fraiche together. Season with salt, pepper and nutmeg. Pour over potatoes. Potatoes should be barely covered. Add more cream if needed. Sprinkle with remaining cheese and bake until golden brown, about 30-35 minutes.

3.

If desired, turn on broiler during last 10 minutes of cooking and broil top potato layer until crispy, watching carefully. Serve.
