For the oranges
1 kilogram firm Oranges
salt
For the syrup
1 kilogram sugar
1 ½ liters water
2 Tbsps lemon juice

Preparation steps

For the oranges: Coat the fruit with salt and set aside for 30 minutes. Cover with boiling water. Once the water has cooled, drain the oranges, rinse under cold water and let rest overnight in fresh water. Cut an "X" in the base of each orange and cook the oranges in boiling water until the skin is soft. Drain, thinly slice and remove the seeds.

For the syrup: Bring the sugar, water and lemon juice to a boil. Add the orange slices and cook until translucent. The syrup should be thick. Skim the foam. Transfer the orange slices and syrup to glass jars. Serve with after dinner tea.
