- 1 ⅓ kilograms Pork boneless, shoulder or butt (upper shoulder)
- 2 Tbsps brown sugar (light)
- 1 Tbsp ground paprika (sweet)
- 2 tsps coarse salt
- freshly ground peppers
- 2 large onions
- 350 milliliters Ginger ale (or Root Beer)
- ½ bottle Barbecue sauce (such as Sweet Baby Ray)

Preparation steps
1.
Rinse pork and pat dry. Mix sugar with paprika, salt and pepper in a small bowl. Rub meat with the mixture well. Peel onions and cut into rings. Arrange half of onions in a crock pot. Place meat on top and cover with remaining onions. Add ginger ale and cook, covered, for about 6-8 hours on low heat.

Remove meat and onions from the pot. If necessary, remove excess fat from meat and pick meat apart with two forks.

Place meat and onions back into pot and add barbecue sauce. Cook, covered, for 1-2 hours more.
4.
If desired, serve meat alone, with rice, or as a sandwich on a bun with barbecue sauce.
