Preparation steps

1.

Coarsely chop the nuts and chocolate. Melt the chocolate over a hot water bath. Slit the vanilla pod lengthwise and scrape out the seeds.

2.

Beat the butter, sugar, vanilla seeds and a pinch of salt until creamy. Gradually stir in the eggs. Pour the melted, very hot chocolate into the egg mixture, stirring constantly. Rinse the cherries and pat dry. Fold the cherries, 2/3 of the mixed nuts, the flour and the baking powder into the batter.

3.

Line a baking dish (30 x 20 cm; approximately 8 x 10 inches) with parchment paper and grease with butter. Pour the batter into the baking dish and smooth. Bake for about 30 minutes at 175°C (approximately 350°F). Remove from the oven and let cool on a wire rack.

4.

Heat the cake icing according to the package instructions. Spread the cake icing on the brownies and let cool slightly. Cut into 20 cubes, sprinkle with the remaining nuts and serve.
