- 200 grams Pearl barley
- 70 grams Smoked bacon
- 1 stalk Leeks
- 2 stalks Celery
- 2 carrots
- 2 potatoes
- 1 onion
- 2 garlic cloves
- 1 bay leaf
- 2 liters Beef broth (from a jar)
- 2 Tbsps vegetable oil
- salt (and pepper)
- 2 Tbsps chopped parsley
- 1 slice cooked ham (piece)

Preparation steps
1.
Dice the bacon finely. Rinse and trim all of the vegetables. Peel carrots, onion, garlic and potatoes. Cut everything into small cubes. Add the bacon to 2 tablespoons of oil in a saucepan. Add vegetables and sauté while stirring for 5 minutes. Add barley and bay leaf, pour in the broth and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer 1 hour over low heat. Season with salt and pepper and stir in parsley.

Cut the cooked ham into strips.

Pour the soup into warmed soup bowls and serve topped with the ham.
