500 grams onions
3 Tbsps butter
900 milliliters Vegetable broth (or broth)
200 milliliters dry white wine
100 grams Emmentaler cheese (or Parmesan)
salt
freshly ground peppers
4 slices white bread

Preparation steps

1.

Peel onions, halve and cut into slices. Melt butter in a saucepan, add onions, slowly saute until translucent.

Add broth and wine to the saucepan and cook over low heat for around 20 minutes. Grate cheese.

3.

Finally, season the soup with salt and pepper. Pour soup into ovenproof soup bowls. Cover each bowl with a slice of white bread, sprinkle with cheese and cook under a preheated oven broiler, watching carefully, until cheese melts. Serve immediately.
