Preparation steps
1.
Preheat the oven to 170°C (150°C in a fan oven), 325°F, gas 3 and brush a baking tray with oil.
2.
Sauté the chopped onion in olive oil until translucent and remove from the heat. Mix together with the breadcrumbs and crème fraîche. Stir in the rosemary and thyme and season to taste with salt and ground black pepper.
3.
Place the halved onions cut side up on the baking tray. Bake for around 15 minutes, remove from the oven and place approx. 1 tsp of filling on top of each half. Bake for a further 20 minutes.
4.
Meanwhile, season the steaks with salt and ground black pepper, place in a pan with hot oil and brown on both sides. Wrap in aluminium foil and place on the baking tray alongside the onions. Cook for 4-6 minutes depending on the thickness of the steak and desired degree of cooking.
5.
Unwrap the steaks, slice and serve each steak with two onion halves.
