Preparation steps

1.

Rinse the cherries and remove the stems and pits.

2.

Boil 200 ml of water (approximately 3/4 cup) in a saucepan along with the sugar and simmer until the sugar has dissolved.

3.

Place the cherries in a bottle and pour the hot syrup over. Add the rum and mix well.

4.

Leave to infuse in a cool, dark place for 3 to 4 days before serving.

If kept cool, this will keep for about 3 months.
