Poppy Seed Dessert
With poppy seeds and stale wholemeal rolls, poppy seed games score points for their rich dietary fibre, which is helpful for a well-functioning digestion and supports the intestinal flora. The poppy seed also convinces with the mineral magnesium, which can provide relief from stress, fatigue and listlessness. Milk provides a significant proportion of the body's building material protein; in addition, the mineral combination provides calcium and phosphorus for healthy bones.
If you would rather enjoy the poppy seed games vegan, that is also completely unproblematic - for that the rolls should be free of animal products in any case and the milk would have to be replaced by a vegetable alternative, for example by oat drink.
- For the dessert
- 250 grams ground Poppy seeds
- 50 grams raisins
- ½ liter milk
- 100 grams sugar
- 300 grams day-old White roll
- 50 grams Hazelnuts (chopped)
- Additional supplies
- 1 oval Pan 28 x 17 cm and 1/2 liter deep (approximately 11 x 7 inches, 2 cups deep)
Bring the ground poppy seeds to a boil with the raisins, milk and sugar in a saucepan, then lower heat and simmer about 8-10 minutes. Remove from heat and let rest about 20 minutes. Stir in the hazelnuts. Cut the bread into 1 1/2 cm (approximately 1/2 inch) thick slices.
For soaking, stir the milk and sugar together until the sugar has dissolved.
Place a third of the slices of bread in the milk-sugar mixture, then remove and line the bottom of a baking dish with the soaked slices. Spoon a third of the poppy mixture evenly over the bread. Place another third of the bread slices in the milk, then remove and layer over the first layer of bread slices. Press down lightly. Repeat the process until all of the ingredients are used up, finishing with a poppy layer. Let rest in the refrigerator for about 2-3 hours.
