- For the Dough
- 2 ½ cups flour
- 1 pinch salt
- ¼ cup sugar
- ¾ cup butter (chopped)
- 2 egg yolks
- 1 tsp Dried yeast
- 7 Tbsps milk
- For the Filling
- ¼ cup butter (melted)
- 13 ozs canned Poppy seed filling (for cakes and pastry)
- For Glaze
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 2 Tbsps Rum
- 1 Tbsp warm water
- colored dragee (to decorate)

Preparation steps

Preheat oven to 375ºF / 190°C.

Sift flour, salt and sugar into a bowl; stir in the butter.

Mix together the egg yolks, yeast and milk and add to the flour-butter mixture. Quickly form into smooth dough; let rise in a cool place for 30 minutes.

Line a cookie sheet with waxed paper. On a floured surface roll dough out into a rectangle 1/4-inch thick. Brush dough with melted butter and spread with the filling. Roll up; place on the prepared cookie sheet. Let rise for 10 minutes; bake for 35 to 45 minutes or until golden brown.

Sift sugar into a bowl; add rum and warm water, 1 tablespoon at a time, until the mixture is smooth and shiny. Spread over the still warm strudel and sprinkle with dragèes. Slice and serve.
