Preparation steps
1.
Peel the pears, quarter, core and coarsely chop the quarters. Bring the sugar to a boil in a saucepan with 200 ml of water (approximately 7 ounces). Simmer a few minutes until the sugar has dissolved. Add the pears and simmer for 5 minutes. Lift the pears with a slotted spoon, drain and place in a bowl. Rinse the oranges under hot water, dry with paper towels and cut into pieces. Simmer in the sugar water for 5 minutes and lift with a slotted spoon. Dry with paper towels. Pour the vinegar, mustard, salt, red pepper, cloves, pepper and allspice into the sugar water and simmer for about 10 minutes.
2.
Put the pears and oranges into jars (about 3/4 full) and cover with the pickling liquid. Close the jars.
3.
Leave for at least 4 days before serving.
