6 ½ cups sweet Cherries (washed, drained and pitted)
cup sugar

Preparation steps

1.
Sterilise the preserving jars with boiling water and place them to hand.
2.
Layer the cherries in the jars.
3.
Place the sugar in 1 litre water and heat gently until the sugar has dissolved. Leave to cool and pour over the cherries in their jars. The cherries should be completely covered with the liquid.
4.
Wipe the rim of the jars if necessary and close them tightly.
5.
Place a tea towel in a pot and place the jars on top. Fill with water approx. halfway up the jars and cover with a lids. Bring to the boil and then simmer for a further 30 minutes. Leave to cool in the pots.
6.
Remove from the pot, wipe dry and store in a cool, dark place.
