Preparation steps

1.

Trim the asparagus and cut the woody ends. Rinse the bell peppers, cut into halves, remove the seeds and ribs, and cut into narrow strips.

Saute the asparagus in hot butter for about 3 minutes, turning constantly. Add in the bell peppers and cook for 2 minutes. Add in the lemon juice and season with salt and pepper.

Cut the pita breads into halves, cut each half further horizontally into upper and lower halves. Place each half on a lined baking tray with baking paper.

2.

Top each lower pita half with sauteed asparagus and bell pepper and the Gouda slices. Sprinkle the upper halves of the pita bread with the grated cheese on top.

Bake in a preheated oven at 220°C (fan: 200°C, gas mark 4) (approximately 430°F) for about 5 minutes until golden brown. Place the upper halves of pita bread over the lower halves and secure with wooden skewers. Serve with French fries.
