The walnuts make the dough of the apple pie nice and nutty and also bring in a lot of healthy fats: The omega-3 fatty acids they contain support the brain and keep the heart and blood vessels healthy. B-vitamins from the nut also ensure strong nerves and a relaxed mind when stress arises.

The cake should be stored in a cool and dry place - at best you will use it up within 1-3 days. It tastes especially good warmed up shortly before serving.

Preparation steps

1.

For the cream: Cream egg yolks with sugar and starch in a bowl. Put cream in a pot over low heat, add marzipan stir, dissolving completely. Remove cream from heat and let cool slightly. Slowly add cream to egg mixture, stirring constantly.

Dust cream with powdered sugar allow to cool slightly.

Preheat the oven to 180°C (approximately 350°F).

For the cake: Cream butter, sugar and vanilla sugar until fluffy. Gradually add eggs and salt. Combine flour, nuts and baking powder. Stir a little flour mixture into the butter mixture, then add a little milk. Continue to alternate, stirring after each addition, until all ingredients are combined.

Spread batter on a lined baking tray, smooth out, and bake for about 10 minutes. Remove and allow to cool.

Peel, core and quarter apples. Cut notches on the skin side of the apple. Drizzle apple pieces with lemon juice.

7.

Spread cream on cake and top with apples. Combine butter and sugar and sprinkle on top of apples and cream. Bake for another 30-35 minutes. Remove from oven, cool and cut into pieces. Serve garnished with walnuts.
