- For the filling
- 5 cooking Apple (peeled, cored, thinly sliced)
- ⅓ cup maple sugar
- ⅜ cup cream (48% fat)
- For the cake
- 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 2 ½ tsps Baking powder
- ¼ tsp salt
- ⅔ cup butter
- 1 cup maple sugar
- 3 eggs (beaten)
- ⅜ cup milk (more if needed)
- To serve
- Ice cream

Preparation steps
1.
Heat the oven to 170°C (150° fan) 325°F gas 3. Grease a deep 23cm|9" square baking tin or dish.
2.
For the filling: mix together the ingredients and set aside.
3.
For the cake: sift together the flour, baking powder and salt and set aside.
4.
Beat together the butter and sugar in a mixing bowl until light and creamy. Gradually beat in the eggs until blended.
5.
Gently fold in the flour mixture, a little at a time until incorporated, adding the milk at the end. the mixture should be spreadable.
6.
Spoon 1/3 of the mixture into the tin and smooth the top. Top with 1/3 of the apple mixture. Repeat the layers twice more.
7.
Bake for 70-90 minutes until a skewer inserted into the centre of the cake comes out clean. Cool in the tin for 20 minutes, before cutting into squares.
8.
Serve with ice cream.
