- 1 ⅓ cups water
- 2 cloves
- 1 Cinnamon stick
- 2 Star anise
- 1 lemon (zest and juice)
- 1 ⅓ cups Red wine
- 2 Oranges (peeled and segmented)
- 6 hard Pear (peeled and quartered)
- 6 dried Prune
- 3 dried Figs (halved)
- 1 cup Pecan

Normal Cooking: Follow the recipe to the end of step 3. Add the pears and simmer for 5-10 minutes until tender. Add the prunes and oranges simmer for about 10 minutes, until all the fruits are tender. Continue as step 5.

Preparation steps
1.
Preheat the slow cooker if necessary – see manufacturer’s instructions.

Heat the sugar, water, spices and lemon zest and juice in a pan over a low heat, stirring until the sugar has dissolved. Bring to a boil and boil for 1 minute.

Add the wine and reheat.

Put the fruit in the slow cooker pot and pour over the hot syrup; all the fruit should be just covered with liquid. You may need to add a little more wine or water. Cover and cook on high for 2 1/2 – 3 hours until the fruits are tender. Add the pecan nuts for the last 30 minutes of cooking time.
5.
Remove the spices and serve warm or cold with cream or crème fraiche.
