Sweet Loaf with Nut Swirl
- For the dough
- 200 grams Quark
- 2 eggs
- 6 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 80 grams sugar
- 1 tablespoon grated Lemon peel
- 300 grams Pastry flour
- 1 packet Baking powder
- For the filling
- 300 grams finely chopped Walnut
- 50 grams sugar
- 1 egg white
- 3 tablespoons milk (or cream)
For the dough, mix together the quark with milk, eggs, oil, sugar and lemon zest. Stir in half of the flour, then knead in remaining flour with baking powder.
Roll out the dough on floured surface into a square of approximately 35 x 35 cm (approximately 14 x 14 inches).
For the filling, mix together all the ingredients for the nut filling. Sprinkle the filling over the dough and roll up the dough into a loaf shape. Place the loaf on a greased or parchment-lined baking sheet.
For baking, stir together the egg yolk and 1 tablespoon water. Brush the loaf with the egg yolk mixture. Bake about 40 minutes in an oven preheated to 175°C (approximately 350°F). Remove and let cool.
For finishing, stir together the sugar and milk. Sprinkle the walnuts on the cake and drizzle with the icing.
