Sweet and Savoury Compote

Place all the ingredients for the jam in a large saucepan.
Bring to the boil over a moderate heat, stirring occasionally to help dissolve the sugar then reduce the mixture to a simmer.
Simmer for 60-70 minutes until thick. Remove from the heat and leave to cool to one side.
Spoon into sterilised jars and seal well.
