Preparation steps
1.
Clean the cabbage. Remove eight large leaves (cut a wedge-shape from the stalk) and blanch in boiling salted water for about 1 minute. Remove and drain.
2.
Spread 2 leaves overlapping on the countertop.
3.
Finely chop the onion and knead it with the ground beef, rice, egg, salt, pepper and cumin. Spread the mixture on the cabbage leaves.
4.
Turn the sides of the leaves inward and roll up. Wrap the rolls with kitchen twine. Heat oil in a pan and fry the rolls. Dice the onion, and add in with the paprika, sugar, tomato paste and peeled garlic. Pour in the broth, and the diced tomatoes. Simmer covered for about 40 minutes. Remove rolls, remove yarn and arrange on a plate. Season the sauce with salt and pepper, pour over the rolls, and serve.
