200 grams starchy potatoes
1 onion
1 carrot
1 Celery
400 grams Ground beef
2 Tbsps vegetable oil
1 tsp Tomato paste
150 milliliters Beef broth
salt
freshly ground peppers
40 milliliters milk
freshly grated Nutmeg
butter (for the baking dish)
50 grams grated Cheese (Cheddar or Emmentaler)

Preparation steps

1.

Peel and wash the potatoes. Transfer to a pot, cover with salted water and bring to a boil. Keep the pot half-covered and simmer for about 25 minutes.

Rinse, peel and dice the onion, carrot and celery. Brown the ground beef in hot oil. Saute the diced vegetables briefly, stir in the tomato paste and deglaze with the broth. Bring to a boil then turn off the heat.

Season with salt and pepper.

Drain the potatoes and mash with the potato masher. Stir in the  milk stir until a smooth. Season with salt and nutmeg.

Preheat the oven to 180°C (approximately 350°F). Butter a pie dish. Transfer the ground beef to the baking pan. Spread the mashed potatoes evenly over the ground beef so that everything is well covered. Sprinkle with cheese and bake until golden brown 40-45 minutes in the oven.
