Preparation steps

Peel the potatoes, rinse thoroughly, then cut into large pieces.

Bring a pot of salted water to a boil. Place the potatoes in the pot, and simmer for 15-20 minutes depending on the size. Drain the potatoes and dry the potatoes slightly. Mash the potatoes with a potato masher. Dice the butter, then add to the potatoes and season to taste with salt and nutmeg. Mash shortly with the potato masher, then stir with a spoon, whisk, or hand mixer until the butter has dissolved. Bring the milk to a boily briefly, mix into the potatoes, and stir until a creamy puree has formed.
