3 cups Whole wheat flour
1 cup coarse Oatmeal
2 tsps baking soda
1 tsp salt
1 tsp runny honey
1.333 cups Buttermilk
3 Tbsps milk

Preparation steps

1.
Heat the oven to 200°C (180° fan) 400°F gas 6. Grease a baking tray.
2.
Mix the flour with the oatmeal, bicarbonate of soda and salt in a mixing bowl.
3.
Stir in the honey, buttermilk and enough milk to make a soft dough.
4.
Knead lightly for 5 minutes until smooth. Shape the dough into a 20cm|8" round and place on the baking tray.
5.
Cut a deep cross into the centre of the dough. Brush with a little milk and bake for 30-35 minutes until the bread is risen, firm and sounds hollow when tapped underneath. Place on a wire rack to cool.
