100 grams Candied lemon
100 grams candied orange
1 lemon (Juice and zest)

125 milliliters Cognac or Brandy
1 Tbsp Ground cinnamon
1 generous pinch Ground clove
100 milliliters Sugar syrup (1:1 ratio sugar to water, boiled until sugar is dissolved)

Preparation steps

1.

Cut the dried and candied fruits into small cubes. Coarsely chop the walnuts. In a large bowl, mix the fruits, nuts, and the zest and juice of one lemon. Mix well with the spices and the brandy. Cover and let soak overnight.

The next day, thoroughly knead the rye dough. Form four flat, square, round or oval loaves and place on a lined with baking sheet. Spread sugar syrup on the loaves, reserving half of the syrup. Preheat oven to 160°C (approximately 325°F) and bake for approximately 45 minutes.

After 45 minutes, brush remaining sugar syrup over the loaves and sprinkle with candied fruit and nuts. Let cool.

4.

Individually wrap in aluminum foil and store in a cool place.
