For slices

1 ¼ cupsself-rising flour
¾ cupsrolled oats
⅔ cupsbutter
1 cupsliced almonds
⅓ cupslight brown sugar
1 ⅓ cupschopped Dried dates
2 tablespoonshoney
1 tablespoonwater


1 Heat the oven to 180°C (160° fan) 350°F gas 4. Line a 20cm|8" square tin with non-stick baking paper.
2 Stir together the flour and oats in a mixing bowl and rub in the butter until the mixture resembles coarse breadcrumbs.
3 Stir in the almonds and sugar and press half the mixture into the tin.
4 Put the dates, honey and water into a pan and heat gently, stirring, until the honey has melted. Simmer gently for 10 minutes to a thick, soft paste.
5 Spread the date mixture over the oat mixture in the tin. Cover with the remaining oat mixture and press down lightly with a fork.
6 Bake for about 30 minutes until golden. Cool completely in the tin, then cut into squares to serve.
