Preparation steps

Preheat oven to 180°C (approximately 350°F).

Grease pan and sprinkle with a small amount of almonds. Place in refrigerator.

For the cake, melt chocolate in a hot water bath. Beat butter with powdered sugar until fluffy. Separate eggs. Gradually add egg yolks to melted chocolate and stir into butter mixture. Beat egg whites with sugar until stiff and then carefully fold into chocolate mixture. Mix flour with almonds and also fold into chocolate mixture. Pour batter into pan and bake for 50-60 minutes. Cake is done when an inserted toothpick comes out clean. Cool and remove from pan.

For the filling, heat apricot jam and pass through a sieve.

For the topping, break chocolate into pieces. Add sugar and 1/2 cup of water and melt over medium heat while stirring constantly. Cool while stirring.

Cut cake once across horizontally. Spread bottom layer with half of apricot jam. Place top layer on and spread with remaining jam. Coat cake evenly with chocolate icing, let dry slightly and then sprinkle with cocoa powder. Cool completely and serve with whipped cream.
