- 2 day-old Whole wheat buns
- 2 Tbsps butter
- 2 onions
- 500 milliliters hot water
- 1 ½ tsps Vegetable broth
- 500 milliliters dark beer
- salt
- freshly ground peppers
- Nutmeg

Preparation steps
1.
Cut the bread into small cubes and fry in 1/2 the butter until crisp and golden brown in a skillet over medium heat. Keep warm.
2.
Peel the onions, cut into thin rings and sauté until golden brown in the remaining butter over medium heat. Keep warm.
3.
Rinse the chives, pat dry and cut into small rings. Bring the water, broth and beer to a boil. Season with salt, pepper and nutmeg.
4.
Arrange the croutons, sautéed onions and chives in warmed soup bowls. Pour the hot liquid over top. Serve immediately.
