- 1 Tbsp olive oil
- 2 onions (chopped)
- 3 cups lean Ground beef
- 1 Tbsp tomato puree
- 1 Tbsp plain flour
- 1 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 2 cups Beef stock
- 6 cups potatoes (peeled cut into chunks)
- 3 Tbsps butter
- 4 Tbsps milk

Preparation steps
1.
Heat the oven to 170C (150C in a fan oven), 325F, gas 3. Heat the oil in a large flameproof casserole and fry the onions for 5 minutes until softened.
2.
Add the beef mince and cook for 15 minutes until the mince is well browned.

Stir in the tomato puree, flour and Worcestershire sauce and stock. Bring to the boil and season with salt and ground black pepper.

Cover and cook in the oven for 45 minutes until the mince is tender.

Meanwhile, put the potatoes into a pan of salted water, bring to the boil, then simmer for 20-25 minutes until really tender.
6.
Drain the potatoes, return to the pan, and mash until really smooth. Beat in the butter and milk.
7.
Increase the oven temperature to 220C (200C in a fan oven), 400F, gas 6.
8.
Spoon the beef into a 1.7 l ovenproof dish. Spoon the potato mixture on top, to completely cover the meat.
9.
Stand the dish on a baking tin and cook for 25 minutes until the top is starting to brown.
