- 2 ⅔ cups haricot bean (soaked overnight)
- 2 large onions
- 2 cloves
- 4 Tbsps black Treacle
- ⅔ cup brown sugar
- 2 Tbsps tomato puree
- 1 tsp English mustard powder
- salt
- peppers
- 1 ⅓ cups water (or stock)

Preparation steps
1.
Drain and rinse the beans, then simmer in fresh water until half tender, then drain.
2.
Heat the oven to 140C,275F, gas 1.
3.
Stick a clove into each onion and place them in a large ovenproof casserole. Tip in the drained beans.
4.
Mix the remaining ingredients together and pour over the beans. Cover and cook for about 3-4 hours stirring occasionally. Check that the mixture doesn’t become too dry- top up with boiling water if necessary.
5.
Serve on buttered toast.
