2 ½ cups dried, green Split pea (rinsed)
3 carrots (sliced)
1 onion (chopped)
1 garlic clove (finely chopped)
1 bay leaf
1 tsp salt (or to taste)
½ tsp peppers
6 cups hot water
To garnish
4 ozs crisply fried Bacon

Product recommendation
Normal Cooking: Soak the split peas for 12 hours in cold water. Rinse and put in a large pan. Cover with the water. Bring to a boil and simmer for 25 minutes. Skim off any scum and add the vegetables. Simmer for 15-20 minutes, until the peas are tender. Cool slightly, then mash with a potato masher until thickened. Garnish with the fried bacon.

Preparation steps

1.
Preheat the slow cooker if necessary – see manufacturer’s instructions.
2.
Layer the ingredients in the slow cooker pot in the order given.
3.
Pour in the water. Do not stir ingredients.
4.
Cover and cook on high for 4 to 5 hours until the peas are very soft. Remove the bay leaf. Mash with a potato masher to thicken more, if desired.
5.
Ladle into bowls and garnish with the fried bacon.
