Preparation steps

1.

Rinse beef, place in a pot, cover with water and bring to a boil. Cover the pot and simmer over low heat for 25 minutes. Remove and allow to cool. Measure 100 ml (approximately 3 1/2 ounces) of the broth. Cut beef into slices that are 4 cm (approximately 1 1/2 inches) long, 3 cm (approximately 1 inch) wide and 1 cm (approximately 1/2 inch) thick. Rinse tomatoes and cut into eighths.

2.

Rinse scallions, trim and cut into thick pieces. Peel ginger and slice. Heat oil in a wok, sauté star anise while stirring until fragrant. Add scallions and ginger and sauté briefly over high heat while stirring over high heat. Add broth, bring to a boil, add meat, mix and cook for 5 minutes.

3.

Remove ginger, scallions and star anise from the wok. Add tomatoes, sugar and salt to the wok. Mix corn starch in a bowl with 4 tablespoons of water, mix, boil until sauce thickens. Sprinkle with sesame oil and serve.
