Step-by-step for Crumble

Heat the oven to 180°C (160°C in a fan oven), 350°F, gas 4.
For the crumble, put the flour, almonds, oats and icing sugar in a bowl. Add the butter and rub the ingredients together to create a crumb-like texture.
Peel, quarter and core the apples and slice into wedges. As you cut them, put the wedges in a bowl of water with 2 tbsp lemon juice to stop them going brown.
Drain the apples thoroughly and transfer to a large, buttered oven-proof dish. Mix with the sugar, vanilla sugar, cinnamon and the rest of the lemon juice.
Sprinkle the crumble over the apples, press down to firm and bake in the oven for 25-30 minutes. Take out of the oven and cool to lukewarm. Dust with icing sugar and serve with whipped cream or ice cream, as desired.
