1 bottle good Red wine
3 tablespoons sugar
2 Cinnamon stick (broken)
1 small ginger (bruised)
4 cloves
½ teaspoon grated Nutmeg
3 Cardamom (bruised)
1 strip unwaxed Orange peel
To decorate
1 unwaxed Orange (sliced)

Preparation steps

1.
Put all the ingredients into a pan and slowly bring to simmering point, stirring until the sugar has dissolved. Simmer very gently for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally. Do not allow to boil.
2.
Strain into heatproof serving glasses and top with the orange slices. Serve hot.
