Preparation steps

Rinse the lemons in hot water and pat dry. Zest the lemons and squeeze the juice. Bring the lemon zest, lemon juice, sugar and 600 ml (approximately 2.5 cups) of water to a boil. Simmer for about 5 minutes. Add the basil and remove from the heat. Let sit for about 1 hour. Pour the syrup through a fine sieve into a pot. Bring back up to a boil. Pour into prepared bottles. Close tightly until ready to serve.
