- For the cake
- 1 cup light brown sugar
- 1 pinch salt
- 1 cup butter
- 2 cups self-rising flour
- 1 tsp Baking powder
- ½ cup ground Walnut
- 1 Tbsp light corn syrup
- 4 large eggs
- 1 tsp Walnut liqueur (or vanilla extract)
- For the buttercream
- ½ cup butter (scant)
- 2 tsps Walnut liqueur (or vanilla extract)
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- To decorate
- 1 cup Walnut

Preparation steps
1.
For the cake: heat the oven to 160°C (140° fan) 325°F gas 3. Grease 2 x 23 cm| 9" cake tins and line the bases with non-stick baking paper.

Put all the cake ingredients into a mixing bowl and beat well with an electric whisk until smooth.

Spoon into the tins and bake for about 25 minutes until golden and risen. Cool in the tins for a few minutes, then place on a wire rack to cool completely.
4.
For the buttercream: beat together all the ingredients with an electric whisk until smooth.
5.
Sandwich the cakes together with half the buttercream. Spread the remaining buttercream on top and decorate with walnut halves.
