225 grams butter
225 grams brown sugar
1 egg
350 grams Molasses
1 tsp Ground cinnamon
1 tsp ground ginger
1 tsp ground allspice
1 tsp Baking powder
¼ tsp salt
475 grams Pastry flour
Pastry flour (for the work surface)
For decorating
100 grams powdered sugar
1 tsp Orange juice

Preparation steps

1.

Mix the butter with the sugar until fluffy. Stir in the egg. Stir in the molasses, cinnamon, ginger, allspice, baking powder and salt, then gradually knead with the flour until a smooth dough forms. Divide the dough into quarters and form into patties. Wrap in plastic wrap and chill for about 3 hours.

Slowly roll out the dough onto a floured surface to about 4 mm (approximately 1/10 inch) thin and cut out shapes. If needed, chill for about 20 more minutes.

Preheat the oven to 200°C (approximately 400°F).

Place the shapes on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake in the oven for about 15 minutes. Remove from oven and let cool for 5 minutes. Then allow to cool on a wire rack.

For decorating, mix the powdered sugar with the orange juice until thick and fill a piping bag. Decorate the shapes and garnish with sugar stars. Dry and let set. Serve,
