Preparation steps
1.
Heat the oven to 180°C (160° fan gas 4. Line 2 baking trays with non-stick baking paper.

Beat the butter, icing sugar, and salt until pale and fluffy. Beat in the vanilla.

Add the flour and mix until combined. Shape into about 24 small balls.

Place the sanding sugar in shallow bowls. Roll each ball in sanding sugar and place on the baking trays about 2.5cm|1"apart.
5.
Bake for 15-18 minutes until the edges are lightly golden. Cool on the baking trays for a few minutes, then place on a wire rack to cool completely.
