½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 pinch Star anise
1 generous pinch cloves
1 pinch Ground allspice

Preparation steps

Preheat the oven to 180°C (approximately 350°F).

Slice the dried fruit and mix with the rum. Beat the butter and sugar until creamy. Separate the eggs. Beat the yolks gradually into the butter mass. Mix in the flour, baking powder, cocoa powder, nuts and spices. Mix with the dried fruit and rum. Beat the egg whites until stiff and fold into the batter. Grease and lightly flour the baking pan. Fill with the dough and smooth. Bake in the preheated oven for about 1 hour. Remove the cake, allow to cool and remove from the pan.

Coarsely chop the chocolate and melt over a hot water bath. Cover the cake with the liquid chocolate and smooth. Garnish with the whole almonds, cherries and marzipan figures and serve.
