Preparation steps

1.
Preheat the oven to 180°C | 350F | gas 4. Line a 12 section muffin tin with fairy cake paper cases. Put all the cake ingredients into a bowl and beat with a hand-held electric mixer. Whisk for 1–2 minutes until light and fluffy. Divide the mixture evenly between the cases.
2.
Bake in the oven for 18–20 minutes until risen and firm to the touch. Place on a wire rack to cool.
3.
To make the icing put the butter and icing (confectioners') sugar into a bowl and beat well until smooth and creamy. Add the vanilla extract and water and beat again.
4.
Put the icing into a piping bag fitted with a small star nozzle. Pipe small star shapes on each cup cake to represent the puppy's fur.
5.
Using wetted scissors snip the white marshmallows into slices (they will be slightly pointed) and place two on each cake to represent ears. Snip the pink marshmallows into tongue shapes and place one on each cake. Put a red chocolate bean in the centre to represent the nose and place two dark chocolate beans on for eyes.
