- 2 cups all-purpose flour (sifted)
- ½ tsp salt
- ½ tsp ground Black pepper
- ½ tsp ground cinnamon
- ¼ tsp baking soda
- ¼ tsp ground allspice
- ¼ tsp ground Nutmeg

- ½ cup unsalted butter (softened)
- 1 cup soft light brown sugar
- ¼ cup Treacle (warmed)
- 1 large egg
- 2 cups powdered sugar

Preparation steps
1.
Combine the flour, salt, pepper, and ground spices in a large mixing bowl. Beat together the butter, brown sugar, and treacle in a separate mixing bowl until fluffy; 3 minutes.

Beat the egg into the creamed mixture and then gradually stir in the flour mixture until fully incorporated. Cover and chill for 1 hour.

Preheat the oven to 180°C(160°C)|350F|gas 4. Line two large baking trays with greaseproof paper.

Turn out the cookie dough from the fridge. Take small scoops of the dough and shape into rounded rectangular shapes. Arrange on the baking trays, spaced apart, and bake for 12 - 14 minutes until firm.
5.
Remove to a wire rack to cool slightly. Place the icing sugar in a large dish and add the cookies, tossing and rolling to coat in the sugar.
6.
Remove to the wire rack to finish cooling before serving.
