English Spiced Cake Loaf

Heat the oven to 180ºC (160º fan) 350ºF, gas 4. Line a 20 cm x 20 cm/8" x 8" baking tin with baking parchment.
Put the flour, sugar, ginger and bicarbonate of soda into a mixing bowl.
Put the butter, golden syrup and marmalade in a pan and heat gently until just melted. Whisk in the egg with the milk.
Stir the melted butter mixture into the flour, mix until smooth and turn into the baking tin. Bake for 40-50 minutes until golden. Leave to cool in the tin, then turn out and cut into pieces to serve.
