Preparation steps

1.

For the cake: Mix the flour with the sugar. Dissolve the yeast in lukewarm water with 1 tablespoon of flour. Cover and let sit for 15 minutes.

2.

Beat the butter until fluffy. Stir in the salt and orange zest. Gradually add in the eggs. Add the yeast and stir until smooth. Cover the dough and let rise in a warm place for about 45 minutes. Let it rise until doubled in volume.

3.

Grease the pan with butter and sprinkle with flour. Fill the dough in the pan and let rise for about 20 minutes.

4.

Bake the cake in a preheated oven at 180°C (approximately 350°F) for 45 minutes until golden brown.

5.

For the syrup: Meanwhile, make a syrup with 500 ml (approximately 2 cups) of water to a boil with the sugar. Simmer for 20-25 minutes. Let cook until the mixture thickens. Stir in the rum and orange juice.

6.

Remove the cake from the oven and prick with a fork several times. Soak while hot with the rum syrup. Let the cake cool and then serve as desired.
