8 cups Elbow macaroni
2 Tbsps butter
2 onions (peeled and chopped)
2 cloves garlic cloves (peeled and minced)
5 cups shredded Cabbage
salt (to taste)
1 tsp Caraway
2 cups small curd Cottage cheese
½ cup Buttermilk
3 cups grated Cheddar cheese
freshly ground Black pepper (to taste)
16 ozs cooked Bacon

Preparation steps

1.
Preheat oven to 350º F / 180º C. Lightly grease a 9 x 13-inch / 23 x 33 cm baking pan or dish.

Cook pasta in salted boiling water according to package instructions, until al dente. Drain well.

Melt butter in a large deep skillet and saute onions for about 5 minutes. Add garlic, cabbage, salt and caraway seeds. Cover and cook for 12 minutes, or until cabbage is tender. Remove from heat and combine with cooked pasta.

Mix in cottage cheese, buttermilk, and half of the cheddar cheese. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Crumble half of the bacon and add to the pasta mixture, mix to incorporate. Spread pasta mixture in prepared baking pan. Sprinkle with remaining cheddar cheese and bake uncovered for 20 to 30 minutes, or until bubbly.
5.
Divide between plates and top with remaining bacon slices. Serve.
