Preparation steps
1.
Make each of the doughs, separately, by creaming together the butter and sugar. Beat in the egg (and vanilla for the white dough) and then stir in the dry ingredients. Mix to firm doughs. Wrap separately in plastic wrap and chill for 15 minutes.
2.
On a lightly floured board roll each dough out separately to a rectangle 25cmx18cm. Place the chocolate dough on top of the vanilla dough and roll up, from the longest edge, like a Swiss roll.
3.
Sprinkle the pink sugar over a piece of baking parchment. Roll the log in the sugar until completely coated. Wrap in plastic wrap and chill for 30 minutes.
4.
Heat the oven to 180°C/160°C fan/350°F/ gas 4. Remove the plastic wrap and cut the dough into 20 slices. Place on a non-stick baking tray and bake for 15–20 minutes until just beginning to turn brown. Cool on a wire rack.
