- 2 ⅔ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 ½ cups brown sugar
- 1 ⅓ cups butter
- granulated sugar (for sprinkling)

Preparation steps
1.
Mix the flour, sugar and 2 pinches of salt in a bowl. Chop in the butter with a dough scraper, knead to a smooth dough and chill for approx. 1 hour.

Heat the oven to 180°C (160°C in a fan over), 350°F, gas 4.

Roll out the dough into a rectangle approx. 1 cm thick. Place on a baking tray lined with baking parchment. Fold aluminium foil into a roll to prevent the dough spreading. Prick the dough with a fork all over and bake for 20-30 minutes until golden brown.

While still hot, cut the shortbread into narrow strips approx. 6 cm long. Roll the shortbread in sugar if wished and let cool on a wire rack. Serve with coffee.
